Storms Eunice/Franklin Closes Ports
** 21st February Update
Storm Frankin immediately followed Eunice and operations in many ports are again suspended. With most ports being open for just a few hours between storms, disruption to container transport is likely to be ongoing all week.
18th February 2022
Storm Eunice is already impacting container transport today, as the Ports of Felixstowe, London Gateway and Southampton ports have already been closed.
Felixstowe, in particular, is expected to be closed for much of the weekend and all of today’s transport bookings have been cancelled. This will impact collections and deliveries into next week as not only can containers not be collected ahead of Friday and Monday deliveries, but we can expect some backlogs.
Transport is expected to be seriously disrupted today. Many bridges are closed already, such as the Orwell Bridge and Dartford Crossing, and with trucks being particularly exposed to high winds today will see a limited service.
Of course, if Storm Eunice materialises as many predict, then we can expect road closures due to fallen trees and debris. In summary, any customers expecting collections and deliveries, between now and Monday, could be impacted.
The team at Port Express are closely monitoring the situation and will endeavour to notify affected customers as information becomes available during the day. Should you require further information, then please do not hesitate to contact us.
