Felixstowe Port Introduces Energy Fee
The Port of Felixstowe has announced a new levy to recover recent rises in energy, which will be effective for import containers from 1st May 2022.
In a recent communication, the port advised that it has seen an increase of 100% in its overall year on year energy costs, accounting for its use of wholesale gas, electricity and diesel.
The EAL (Energy Adjustment Levy) will be £11.25 per import container.
The charge will be applicable to all import containers through the port and will be invoiced to the customs declaration party.
There will be no EAL charge for export movements as calculating the cost is too complex with so many containers leaving the UK empty.
