Felixstowe: Current Issues With Restitution

Port congestion and the driver shortage has led to a number of carriers being unable to receive empty containers back to Felixstowe port.

With many additional containers sitting at the port, due to delayed transport issues, carriers such as Maersk, Evergreen & CMA-CGM are now insisting on restitution at other locations, including London Gateway and Tilbury.

This effectively means an extra journey is being incurred during the round trip process, and therefore additional costs.

Our understanding is that carriers are working with the port to come up with solutions, with a view to reopening Felixstowe restitution soon.
