Alliance Confirm Felixstowe Omissions

The 2M Alliance, now reported to be the biggest carrier alliance in the world, has announced that some of its schedules will be omitting Felixstowe due to ongoing delays.

As previously reported, congestion at the port has led to many issues with the empty restitution of equipment. This has been caused by the sheer volume of containers held up in port during the driver shortage crisis.

2M, which comprises carrier giants Maersk & MSC, have advised that many vessels will be discharging at a Northern European port, instead of Felixstowe, until the end of the year. Import cargo from these vessels will be routed back to the UK via feeder services from Antwerp.

Unfortunately, Antwerp is one of many ports that is battling its own congestion issues and feeder services are already struggling to cope with demand. Therefore, importers can probably expect extended transit times on these rationalised services through to the end of the year.
