Carrier Reacts To Restitution Issues

Felixstowe: Current Issues With Restitution

Following last week’s news that a number of carriers were unable to receive empty containers back to Felixstowe port, the issue has raised its ugly head once more.

Restitution of empty containers was stopped last week and then seemingly resolved for a few days, before the port confirmed that they were unable to receive empty containers for Maersk or Evergreen from 0700 this morning.

This once more means an extra journey may be incurred during the round trip process, incurring additional costs, if space cannot be found elsewhere at Felixstowe.

Meanwhile, due to the congestion at Felixstowe, Maersk have announced that some of their largest ships will not be calling at the port in the next few weeks. Instead, containers will be discharged on the continent and transferred to the UK using smaller feeder vessels.
