Government Not Delivering On Truck Stops

Despite government assurances that adequate locations, for drivers to take legally mandated rest breaks, would be prioritised, an apparent lack of progress means that drivers are continuing to put themselves and their loads at risk.

Most of the general public do not like to see drivers parked at the roadside or on industrial estates, but until the lack of secure parking spaces is addressed, there is no alternative.

These are the essential workers that have kept our country moving since the first waves of the pandemic. Yet, without more truckstops, parking and facilities, they are still being denied basic human rights and a safe environment.

Government identified the need for improvement in 2017, but to date has not made great strides to improve the situation. With the driver shortage beyond critical, this is another area that needs urgent attention if we are to attract more drivers to the industry.
