Felixstowe Port’s Autonomous Trucks
A Hutchison Ports communication this week confirmed that the Port of Felixstowe are expecting to introduce 2 autonomous trucks in September 2022.
The driverless vehicles will work alongside, and provide additional support to, the port’s fleet of manual internal tractors.
Hutchison advised they still have a long way to go in their implementation journey and will roll out an extensive communication and engagement programme later.
This will include safety instructions for external vehicles entering the port, which will include the need for drivers to remain in their cabs and to give way to the driverless vehicles at all times.
Incidentally, don’t read too much into our image, it’s just concept art and the vehicles in question certainly wont look like this.
