Driving Change: My Journey into Sustainable Logistics
By James Watts – Managing Director
Last year, I made a conscious decision to step into the world of sustainability.
Like many UK hauliers, I’ve started to feel the momentum building across supply chains. Change is coming and rather than wait for it, I want to help implement it. I’d rather be ahead of the curve, helping to drive solutions, than risk getting left behind.
It’s been a steep learning curve. What I’ve come to realise is that sustainable business models aren’t just about cutting carbon — they’re about driving efficiency at every level of the operation.
For road freight, that includes:
- Smarter tyre strategies
- Using telematics to monitor and improve performance
- Investing in driver behaviour and training
- Exploring renewable fuels
- Trialling new innovations and technology
I was delighted to join the Road Panel at Sustainable Logistics LIVE back in April. The event highlighted not only the knowledge gap we all face, but also the shared ambition across the industry to do better. The inspiration I took from experts and peers continues to fuel my journey.
As I move forward, I’ve made the decision to share what I learn along the way on social posts and dedicated articles on our Port Express website. If you’re reviewing your HGV fleet or exploring how to reduce emissions, I hope the insights I share will help you make more informed, confident decisions.
This isn’t just about road freight, it’s about being part of a broader movement toward smarter, cleaner logistics. And it starts with taking action today!
